Cheers to ENGAGING In twenty sixteen

Thanks to all of my fellow Agents in Engagement for an amazing year! We are making an impact through our focus on employee engagement.  As 2015 comes to a close, take some time to reflect on how you can:

Better Engage Yourself

Are you engaged in your current role? What steps can you take to become more engaged?  What skills do you need to develop? What goals will you set for yourself?

Better Engage Your Direct Reports

Remember, employee engagement isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach.  In what ways can you better engage each of your direct reports? Do you need to improve communication? Do you need to focus on recognizing employees more frequently or in a manner better suited to their preferences? In what ways can you help your employees develop their skills and position themselves for advancement (if that is what they desire)?

Better Engage Your Coworkers

How will you set the example you want your coworkers to follow? Do you need to improve communication? Do you need to recognize them more?  How can you help them develop? In what ways can your partner with your coworkers in your employee engagement efforts?

If you spend some time thinking about these questions, you can easily become overwhelmed. Once you’ve identified the ways in which you can better engage each of these groups, start by focusing on a improving one thing within your power.  Evaluate your progress after 30 days (January). Once you feel that you are making progress, slowly add another of the options you identified. Keep practicing and applying each of them until they are second nature.  By the end of 2016, you’ll have established a new practice around employee engagement but you, your direct reports, and your coworkers will have reaped the benefits all year!

In what ways will you better engage yourself, your direct reports, and your coworkers? What thoughts about better engaging do you have for your fellow Agents?
