Author: David Zinger

Comment: This is the 2nd of 12 monthly posts in the series, Employee Engagement Everywhere: The Wheel of Engagement at Work. “Discernment is the ability to see and understand people, things, or situations clearly and intelligently.” Mr. Zinger offers “6 ways you can enhance your discernment when it comes to employee engagement:

1. Keep focused and don’t let information overload cause you to abandon engagement.
2. Abandon the search for the ONE definition of employee engagement.
3. Be skeptical without slipping into being cynical.
4. Cease your benchmarking mentality; get off of the bench and into the game.
5. Keep an eye on the UK.
6. Develop a laser-like focus on engagement.”

Article: 11 Things You Can Do To Increase Employee Productivity
Link: http://www.lifehack.org/articles/work/11-things-you-can-increase-employee-productivity.html
Author: Paul John Sardoma

Comment:  The author lists 11 ways to better motivate employees. Of the 11 way, I would reword one and change another. “1. Create a family atmosphere.”  I think a better word would be “team” instead of family.  After reading The Alliance, I keep hearing “you can’t fire family.” The other change I would make would be to “4. Small incentives will go a long way.” The author uses monetary incentives and fails to mention recognition as an option.
